Discovers and tracks routes to hosts in the Internet on how packets are flowing through gateways and displays the information dynamically using nice graphics and animations.
Nice Trace is not just a tool for network administrators, webmasters and developers to display a route to host in a nice way. It is also a helpful network diagnostics instrument that aims at finding bottlenecks and problems along the path to a given host.
Using a specially designed asynchronous algorithm it faster passes through the problematic hops not hanging on them thus helping to reach the destination host faster.
Upon progress in the path discovery and tracking displays available hops information hop number, IP address of the router replied, its reverse hostname (PTR DNS record), country location of its owner, average packets round trip time (RTT), counts of packets that were send to and received from the hop and percentage of the packet loss.
The path is rendered as a chain of linked nodes that are displayed in different colors. Nodes without packet loss are green. Hops that lose a few packets are yellow. Gateways losing too many packets are red threshold is configurable. Silent routers that send no replies along with hops that are unreachable are displayed as a special cloud node.
Information is presented dynamically and changes upon its availability. Upon a detection of a lost packet a visual feedback is provided a node on the screen pulses with its color driving you attention to a possible problem. When reply packets for the same hop come from different IP addresses the node is marked as a hop served by multiple routers. (меньше)
